Upper Cervical Care is a gentle yet effective chiropractic procedure that focuses on the correction of spinal mis-alignments without surgery. The doctors of Marshall Spinal Care utilize a hand adjusting procedure to gently correct spinal mis-alignments.
The Upper Cervical procedure practiced by the doctors of Marshall Spinal Care places great importance on the correction of the misalignment of entire spine, skull & pelvis. In so doing, leg-length in-equalities are corrected. There are six primary issues of concern, regarding spinal mis-alignments, to the doctors of Marshall Spinal Care and their patients. 1. Pre x-rays determine the precise mis-alignment of the spine, skull & pelvis. 2. Corrections are all made by hand from the top bone of the spine (the atlas). This corrects the entire spine (neck, mid-back, lower back and hips). 3. For the adjustment, patients lie on the table on their side without turning their head, neck or back. 4. During the correction, patients feel a light touch on the side of the neck, below the tip of the ear. 5. Post x-rays immediately following the initial correction ensure its accuracy. 6. A fifteen minute rest after the adjustment encourages the spine to stabilize in its new (corrected) position. The Upper Cervical procedure restores the skull, spine and hips to their proper position. This takes the pressure off the nerves and encourages the body to return to a neutral, balanced position. From this position, the malfunctioning body systems recover and heal. Upper cervical chiropractic care has its roots in the upper-cervical studies of the late Dr. B.J. Palmer. These studies were performed on adult patients in the Research Clinic of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa beginning in the 1920's. Drs. Grostic & Gregory continued clinical research in the early 1960's and Upper Cervical Spinal Correction has continued to be researched & developed to help acheive a more complete spinal correction. In 1997, Drs. Ray & Mary were led to further refine the existing procedures to assist in taking care of the children who were in their practice. Through clinical research and application, the Upper Cervical Corrective Procedure can be utilized for not only for adult patients, but also to provide spinal care throughout a person's lifetime.
